Several lessons ago, a cousin of mine made the comments that one of the teachings encouraged her in her daily walk with Jesus Christ.

This got me to thinking about our lives and service to Jesus Christ. More specifically how do we know when we are in the right path. I’m not talking about being saved but what are our fruits after salvation.

Lets face it, in our society today, sometimes it hard to tell the professing Christians from the world. Some Christians are living in outright sins. I’m not talking about being in bondage to something, I’m talking about standing up before God and telling him that some of the sins He states are an abomination, you say are ok. This shouldn’t be so.

What are the signs of the true Christian, someone that truly wants to be in right path for Him?

In the 5th chapter of Galatians, we get a glimpse of what if of the sinful flesh, but later on in this chapter we see what the fruits of the Spirt. Notice that the works of the flesh will not inherit the kingdom of God!

The fruits of the Spirit.

Ga 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Ga 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Note: When you get saved, (accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior), your like a tree that bears fruit, either good or bad.

Love here is in a general sense. Like in John 3:16, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

We are to be concerned about the eternity of our fellow mankind, to love them, even if we hate what they do. Love!

Joy, to be gladden, exhilaration. We should always seek the joy of our salvation. When we don’t have it, we should pray like David did in Psalms 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;

Notice he said “restore”

Peace, we should have that confidence in our status with Jesus Christ. Assurance of our salvation. That peace that passes all understanding. Regardless of what is going on around us, we know He is with us to make it through. Peace!

Longsuffering, this is long endurance, patience of offense. Stay the course, keep on keeping on.

Gentleness, we should always use soft manners or mildness in temper. A sweet disposition, meekness.

Goodness, this would be moral virtue, acts of kindness, biblical charity, mercy

Faith, Hebrews 11:1N ow faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

All through the New Testament, we see Christ condemning or commentating on faith, rather a lot or not. We are always encouraged to act on our faith. Yes, we can ask for more faith. Faith is our belief in Jesus Christ and His word.

Meekness, this one if kinda like gentleness as mentioned earlier. This is submission to the Divine will of God, without murmuring. This is the opposite of pride, or arrogance which God hates.

Temperance, this is the moderation of our natural appetites. It is the opposite of gluttony or drunkenness or other indulgences to excess. Other word to describe this word is calmness and patience and of course moderation.

There you go, 9 Spiritual fruits.

I encourage each of you to ponder on each of these fruits. To solidify their place in your Christian walk.

Restoration of the Heart

In my reading this morning, I came across a chapter that caught my eye as it relates to the heart, our hearts. I have taught on the heart several times before but wanted to make a few comments here today if I may.

The passage is in Jeremiah 24. This chapter is dealing with the two figs. God is talking to Jeremiah abut these two figs. One fig is good and the other is evil as the bible puts it. The good fig is what I wanted to discuss.

God is talking to Jeremiah about the restoration of Israel (the good fig).

Jeremiah 24:7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

In looking this verse, I want you to notice several things. The first is: I, who is God, will give them “an heart to know me”…He will “give” them a heart…

Now the 2nd thing I want you to notice is the contingent factor. That being “for”, meaning they did something to quality for this new heart….

The third and last thing I want you see is what they had to do. They had to give God their “whole” heart…not part, but whole.

God desires our hearts! If He’s got your heart, He has you. If you give God your whole heart, you can be perfect before Him! Do Not equate, perfection with sinlessness. It’s not the same. God tells us to be perfect (Matthew 5:48). If you truly want to do what He tells us to do, that is perfection, because He will give you the ways and means to walk upright before Him. Make no mistake though, it’s not you doing it but Jesus Christ in you.

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Always protect your heart. How do you do that?

Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

breastplate of righteousness! What is behind that breastplate? YOUR HEART! How do you protect that heart? Through righteousness! What is righteousness? Doing what is right before the Lord, accordingly to His Word. NOT what you think is right but what the Word of God says.

He loves us so much that He has provided a way for us to be protected from the attacks of the Devil.

We have all we need in Jesus Christ. YOU have to have Jesus Christ! There is no other way under heaven by which can be saved.

Praise The Lord!

God Bless you everyone,

The Mother

The Mother

Since today is Mother’s Day, I wanted to put a little something out there for your consideration.

Of course, this will all come from the Bible.

The Mother carries a special position as she is the beginning of all living.

Ge 3:20 ¶ And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

We see that fact that several times, when the word Mother is used with father and brethren, it is associated with the family. When Jesus was asked about this, His response was:

Lu 8:20 And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
Lu 8:21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

So for these first two, we have the life of all living and the family.

She has the sin like anyone else. She had her birth in sin just like you and me.

Ps 109:14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

In view of all of these she still carries a very special place in the community of mankind.

Eph 6:2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

Honor is not light matter! This is the first commandment.

The Mother’s instruct us.

Song of Solomon 8:2 I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother’s house, who would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

In her old age she is to be honored.

Pr 23:22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

Not only on this day, but everyday, we should honor our Mother’s. they are the family of God, they instruct us. In return, we are to honor them throughout their whole life.

They life and they are family. This is in the natural sense.

They represent the family of God. This is in our spiritual walk with Christ.

We are to honor them!!!

God Bless our Mother’s out there.

God bless you all,

21 Years And Counting

Today is my anniversary! I have been married to my fabulous wife for 21 years. She truly is amazing . I guess every man who is happily married say that, but she really is. Not to get to personal, but she puts with all my short comings. She always has. Yet she still loves me unconditionally. That is not to say that she makes her “comments” from time to time. Comments that sometimes sent me over the edge. Regardless of all that, she is by my side every day, in the bad and trying times and in the good times.

I know none of us know how much time we have left here on this earth. Taking this into consideration, I try to recognize that life is too short to spend it on senseless stuff, stuff that makes no sense. We have to make every day or minute count.

I see her getting older, even though she doesn’t want to admit it. I know she sees me getting older and unable to do the things I once did. No doubt this puts more pressure on her to carry on our daily lives. I dearly want to take that burden off of her. I fear I’ve failed in that respects.

It’s no secret to me that as the time approaching, we are more intertwined together tightly. She truly is a gift from God! I never want to lose that knowledge of the most perfect human gift I could ever receive. I am blessed beyond measure. You simply can’t put a value on something like that. I can’t be done. Somethings can’t be measure, no matter how hard we tried.

In looking back, I can see the bonding over the years. The bonds that kept us together. The bond that could only have come from the Holy Spirit, otherwise we would have been torn apart. The bond over the years that have made us stronger, not only between each other but before God. It’s that what really matters?

When my time comes to go to the other side, I can rest assured that I have been loved by a great woman of God in her duty to her husband. I can only pray that I measure up at that time as her husband. I have no misgivings about the position I hold as her husband.

May God give me the strength and power to fill it according to His dictates. May He give me the power to always make her filled loved regardless of all around us.

I am a blessed man. I have a blessed woman. Happy anniversary.

A Christian Western Story–Chapter 5

Hours turned into days, days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months.

Quanah was a fast learner. His heart was pure in his learning. He had a strong belief in the supernatural things of life. With the story of Jesus Christ, it all came together for him. No doubt the Holy Spirit was at work in this man’s life. Zeb was the instrument that God used to teach Quanah the truth. It was not Zeb’s truth, but the truth of the Bible. Not only was Quanah learning the things of God, but he was learning how to read also. Within several months, he was able to negotiate his way through the scriptures with the exceptions of the really hard words.

It was a fruitful time. Not only was Quanah learning, but so was Ester May and daughter, Rosa Lee. In Zeb’s mind, he knew he couldn’t teach them everything, but he wanted to make sure they knew how to study for themselves. There was one little problem with this, there was just one bible, one King James Bible. Everyone was quick to memorize but they still needed the physical word, if possible.

It was interesting how each individual picked upon a particular part of scripture. Rose lee on the things that addressed growth, like the growth of animals, learning and herself. Ester May on the things embracing love, the love of God toward us, his sacrifice. Quanah learned all of these but he seemed to rally get the spiritual feelings, rather Godly or demonic. He seemed to sense the things of the Devil according to description provided in the Good Book. Additionally, he feel the Holy Spirit had counseled and taught accordingly. This wasn’t just book learning, this was far deeper than that. Zeb could really sense something special about this man, a calling on his life. He didn’t know what but the felt it.

The real test would come when they had to live what they had learned.

Especially Quanah, it was not uncommon for an individual to leave the tribe for months at a time, to seek spiritual guidance, enlighten. Most of the time, this was from Native American culture. What he had learn from the Good Book was far and away from that. In a world of kill or be killed, it would be a hard path to follow, regardless of what world you came from. He would have the “comforter” with him. It may cost him his life, just as it had Jesus Christ. Quanah had accepted Jesus Christ has his Lord and Savior like the others had, but he more to learn about this new to him belief. He had the heart of a child just exactly what God wanted of him.

Quanah was an insightful man. He had seen what was happening between Ester May and Zeb, even if they didn’t know it themselves. He also knew what was happening to Rosa Lee. She developed a extremely str0ng love for Zeb, a father-daughter connection.

Ester May knew she felt something but denied it due to her late husband. It was to her a feeling of betrayal to him. She couldn’t have that. She had loved him deeply but that love, though still evident,   was in the past. Given time, her current feelings for Zeb would surface to overthrow the old feelings, though it might take some time. When it happens, these feeling will come flooding through with a great force.

Zeb knew Ester May was the woman for him. He couldn’t be sure about how she felt. As with most thing pertaining to him, he was patient. If it was meant to be, it would happen. He didn’t know much about women, but what he did know was that you can’t push them. Not that he wanted to push her, but he wanted it to be right for all involved. He knew how Rosa Lee felt. And he knew how he felt, or at least he thought he did.

Time would tell!

2022 Regional Cavalry Competition

For those of you that following my website here, I want to inform you that the Regional Cavalry Competition with be held on April 19th through the 24th. It’s at San Angelo, Texas at Fort Concho. Fort Concho is an Indian wars fort that has be preserved to the max as it still maintain several of the original buildings. If you like history or horses, I highly encourage you to attend. Its a blast.

The Easter Season

The season for Easter is upon us. Next Sunday with be the actual day that Easter is celebrated, April 17th.

As with most truly religious holiday, they are shrouded with other elements of interest. For instance, Christmas has Santa Clause, Easter has the bunny. In my opinion, all to take away from the true meaning of the specific holiday. In fact, I wonder if some individuals even know the true meaning. As in Easter, they know about the bunny or it’s that time to really dress up for church. As my grandfather used to say, “Sunday go to meeting”.

I know a lot know of the true meaning but the General public seems to pass it over. How many actually sit and ponder the real meaning of the cross, the crucifixion. The price that was paid for our sins seems to be evasive to so many. Jesus Christ was the pass over lamb for man kind. He paid the ultimate price for all humanity. It wasn’t a easy task to take on either. It was gruesome, it was horrible. So many wear little crosses around their necks that do little justice to what actually happened that day so long ago in history.

And don’t think for a second that it’s just for Christians. There is secular verification of the crucifixion. It was recorded in history outside of the Bible itself.

But in thinking about what happened, think about what it meant to mankind. It meant that if a person, man or woman, could accept the salvation of Jesus Christ, they could live with him in Heaven for eternity. Let that sink in for a moment, heaven, no hell. Their is a hell to shun and heaven to gain. Not just to avoid hell but to live glorious with our Saviour. That is no small feat!

Eternity! Eternity! get a handle on that in your spirit.

He is Risen! Now you know the real reason for this time. Rejoice!

His salvation is the greatest gift but their are other gifts that we have while we’re still here on this side of the grave. He has given us certain gifts, basic gifts to live by.  Gifts that exist in the spirit and in the flesh. Sometimes, these gifts are overlooked. Gifts to overcome this earthly journey. He will never leave us or forsake us.

So, the short of it is, after salvation, Jesus Christ is with you regardless. Isn’t that amazing?! His love is never ending. His love for you!

The Grand Entry

The year was around 1992, I was 1st Sargent for the Fort Concho Cavalry. It was my first year to lead this bunch of good guys. We all had a passion for horses and the historical western cavalry. At this time, I was riding Jasper predominantly. Jasper was a line back dun with tiger stripe markings on his legs. He carried the lineage of Doc Prescription, a Doc Bar son. He was a good horse, not because he was mind but because he was. I didn’t raise him. I did have a hand in some of his cavalry training but he was broke before I got him.

At this time, the San Angelo rodeo still have the open grand entry. This particular time, they had asked the Fort Concho Cavalry to give an exhibition for one of the performances. I was in charge of showing us off behind the public of San Angelo. It was an exciting time. It was a large indoor coliseum. It was at night, but it wouldn’t have made any difference with it being indoors. the unit was allowed to ride in the arena prior to the performance so the horses would get used to the settings. Be assured, not all horses like the indoors. The unit consisted of about 20 men.

As the performance began, I still remember sitting Old Jasper behind the closed gate. I could the arena and the announcer was giving his talk about Ft Concho. I sent up a little prayer for God to keep His hand on us all, plus, me do a good job of directing the unit. I remember Richard Crain was the Guidon bearer. He was right beside me as we entered the coliseum arena. He was riding a buckskin mare. We went in by 2’s. It was a true honor to lead the men around the arena together and separately. They all performed great.

At one of these performances, we did a charge as we left the arena. As with most indoor coliseums, they aren’t that long. A few of the horses were excited and it didn’t take them long to get out of that arena at a full run. Thankfully, we had no wrecks but it was close for sure.

This was day the Fort Concho Cavalry shown brightly.

I was honored to be at the front.

Why Thinking in the Present (Like Your Horse) Matters

There’s a truth about horses and how they exist in the world that most of us know, but don’t really understand. It’s a simple idea that we’ve heard but often aren’t sure what to do with in our daily training.

And that is, horses think and exist in the present.

They think and exist in a much smaller timespan than humans do, because humans have a huge capacity for mental processing. We think in a broader time frame, incorporating more of the past and future into how we think, react, feel, and view the world. How often do you find yourself thinking about something that happened in the past, or something that might happen in the future? Many of us struggle to stay in the present, which can make it difficult to relate to our horses, who really only exist in the now.

Horses are prey animals by nature. They do what they need to do to survive and always be half an ear or half an eye on alert for a predator that might find them. That’s why, when something disrupts their environment, horses have really big reactions. Their instinct kicks in and tells them to flee.

Humans, however, are the top of the food chain, so we don’t have to be alert at all times. We can live a little in the past, a little in the future, and actually shut out what is happening around us in the moment.

So, why does this matter so much for our training?

1. If you’re just going through the motions without being present and observant, you’re missing the subtle cues that your horse is trying to send you about his understanding of what you are asking.

2. Your ability to read those small cues and moments of body language (your horse’s form of communication) is what solidifies your partnership and helps your horse feel that he’s heard by his teammate.

3. When we’re not present, we can miss small signals of misunderstanding or confusion, which might be minor issues that we could address before they turn into larger ones. If we miss those signals, it may seems like all of a sudden there is a behavioral issue or a major roadblock in your training that:

You may not understand because you missed the smaller signals that something was brewing.Catches you by surprise and causes you to lose confidence, trust in your horse, etc.

If it feels like you and your horse are speaking different languages, it could be because you’re missing each other in that small circle of “present”—and that’s where, to be successful, you must learn to meet your horse.
